Fair Trade Education Activities
With a view to enhancing students’ understanding of Fair Trade, we organize various educational activities including themetic talks, exhibition, experiential activities and workshops. Students are able to explore Fair Trade through immersive, interactive and innovative learning experience, provoke thinking in viral topics such as globalization, sustainable development, gender equality and corporate social responsibilities. All activities are open for registration throughout the year.

Thematic Talks
The concept of Fair Trade is a major issue in the mainstream curriculum. In line with the school curriculum, we provide informative and interactive in-school talks, with a variety of perspectives on the topic, so that students can relate their daily lives to their textbook knowledge.
Duration: 45 minutes - 1 hour|Related subjects: Civics and Social Development, Geography, Life and Society, Economics, etc.
(1) Globalization and Fair Trade
The talk will serve as an introduction of Fair Trade and its importance, and will also address how the livelihood of farmers are affected by multi-national corporations under globalization and how Fair Trade helps improve their quality of life.
Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour
Maximum participants: 200 pax
(2) What am I wearing?
From 4 seasons, to 52 seasons a year, fast fashion has been influencing the the production cycle of fashion industry rapidly. Meanwhile, the clothes are often made of raw materials which adopts the controversial Genetic Modification (GM) technology. After the workshop, students will have an in-depth understanding of the hardships of cotton farmers and garment workers, and how Fair Trade empowers the producers.

(3) Fair Trade and Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of universal indicators towards a sustainable future, and the concept of Fair Trade fits into the 12 of these goals. The seminar will illustrate how Fairtrade contribute to the world’s progress. Students' activities are as follows:
- To learn about the relationship between the six principles of Fair Trade and the goal of sustainable development.
- To recognise the Fair Trade concepts and reflect on their own responsibility as consumers.

We offer workshops on different themes, incorporating the concept of Fair Trade, where students can learn to upcycle various Fair Trade products and understand the process of Fair Trade operation and sustainable development goals.
Duration: 1 - 1.5 hours|Related subjects: Civic and Social Development, Geography, Design and Applied Technology, Economics, etc.
(1) Zero Waste. Coffee grounds upcycling workshop
What to do with the coffee grounds after enjoying a cup of coffee? Through the workshop, we will use coffee grounds to make daily necessities and explain the injustices of the coffee trade. Students' activities are as follows:
- Upcycling coffee grounds to make everyday items such as coffee grounds scrubs, tie-dye, mosquito coil, soap, etc (choose either one).
- Recognising the relationship between fairtrade and sustainable development goals.
Maximum participants: 90 pax
(2) Fair Trade Chocolate Blind Tasting Workshop
From the bitter cocoa beans to the chocolates, the production of chocolate hides the painful tears of farmers and child labour. In the workshop, students will be able to taste Fair Trade chocolates and get to know the values behind. Students' activities are as follows:
- Tasting chocolates from different brands to identify the Fair Trade chocolate.From the activity, learn about the story and philosophy of the Fair Trade brand.
- To explore international issues such as illegal child labour and bringing out how fairtrade can tackle these problems.
Maximum participants: 90 pax
(3) Natural Pigments Making Workshop
To explore the colours from nature, the workshop takes students on a journey of discovering 'colour' in everyday life, to create and paint with the colours. Students’ activities are as follows:
- Making own paints from materials such as dried flowers, turmeric and coffee grounds.
- To learn about the production of raw materials, hence, develop awareness in producer rights issues and SDGs.
Maximum participants: 30 pax
(4) Banana Yarn Bracelet Workshop
Banana peels are not only reusable, they can also be made into "banana yarn"! Through the workshop, students will be able to make their own bracelets using banana yarn. Students' activities are as follows:
- To braid bracelets using Fair Trade certified banana yarn and learn about the story of banana production.
- To introduce the Fair Trade concepts and encourage students to consume sustainably in their daily lives.

(5) Tea Leaves Recycle Paper
Tea is one of the most consumed beverages. Through the workshop, students will be able to choose their favourite tea flavour and create a unique recycled paper. Students’ activities are as follows:
- Understanding the production of tea and the relationship between Fair Trade and SDGs.
- To make a piece of recycled paper and learn about the concept of sustainable consumption.

A. Simulation Games
Learning through play has always been advocated in the education sector. Engaging in our simulation game, students learn from the perspective of different stakeholders. At the game, students could develop team spirit and learn about concepts such as no forced labour and fair pay.
Time: 1.5-2 hours|Related subjects: Civic and Social Development, Geography, Design and Applied Technology, Economics, etc.|Recommended number of participants: Maximum 120
(1) Orange Game
Through a role play session as small-scale orange farmers, students will experience the dilemma faced by farmers in developing countries and find out why they often fall prey to hunger. Post activity reflection will facilitate students’ understanding of Fair Trade and how Fair Trade cooperatives empower small-scale farmers.

(2) Sweat Factory
Role playing as smartphone factory workers, participants will experience the grueling environment and long working hours that workers are enduring every day. Post activity reflection will strengthen students’ understanding of Fair Trade and the rights entitled to producers.

(3) Chocolate Conference
From a row of chocolate bars of $10, how much does each stakeholder share? In the game, students will negotiate and trade in different roles in a simulated conference to express their views on what they consider to be a Fair Trade. Students’ activities are as follows:
- Stimulating students' logic and thinking skills as they argue for the best interests of the group in an opaque market price.
- Realising the importance of fair price and the concept of Fair Trade.
(4) Trade Simulation Game
Globalisation has led to an increase in trades among countries. In this game, students take on the role of different countries, such as developing countries and developed countries. Students’ activities are as follows:
- Understanding the problems behind economic globalisation and experiencing the injustice situation.
- To learn about the concept of Fair Trade and how a Fair Trade economy works.
